Living in Lithuania
Students in Lithuania receive discounts in various places from restaurants to museums to public transport to certain shops. In order to use ALL of them, you’ll need to have Lithuanian student identity card (LSIC) AND an international student identity card (ISIC).
LSIC is issued and administered by the Lithuanian Student Union (LSS) and is valid in Lithuania. It is mandatory for all students in Lithuania (unless you don‘t plan to have exams, use libraries and etc.). It is also a must to all students who came with student exchange programmes. This card will give you discounts at theatres, cinemas, some restaurants and cafés, teaching centres, etc. Also, you will be able to travel half price on city or intercity buses and trains. A more detailed list with all the discounts can be found here https://www.lsp.lt/en/discounts.
ISIC is an international student card – it is not mandatory to have one in Lithuania, but it would let you access even more discounts. It is recognized all around the globe and it is a must if you plan to travel abroad, since, for example, all around the EU students receive discounts for public transport. Discoutns available with ISIC can be found here.
If you want access to as many student discounts as possible, we would recommend to have both LSIC and ISIC, since certain shops accepts one card and others the other.
To get an LSIC you will need to complete an application form and submit it to the LSS (www.lss.lt/lsp). It is very easy to do, all you need is a computer, internet access and an email address. ISIC is also very easy to get, and you can learn all about it here http://www.isic.lt/en/.
